The rule that decides whether a Saudi Google Play card redeems
Google’s wording is blunt: Play gift cards may only be redeemed and used in the country and currency in which they were purchased. What counts as “your country” is not your SIM card, your phone’s language or where you are standing — it is the Play country stored on your Google account. You can read it in under ten seconds:

How to redeem a Google Play gift card in Saudi Arabia
- Confirm the Play country reads Saudi ArabiaIn the Play Store app, tap your profile picture, then Settings → General → Account and device preferences → Country and profiles. If more than one Google account is signed in on the phone, switch to the one you want credited first — the balance goes to whichever account is active.
- Open Payments & subscriptionsBack on the profile menu, tap Payments & subscriptions. This is where your current Google Play balance is shown, in riyals.
- Tap Redeem code and enter itType the code exactly as delivered. If you copy it from an email, check no space was picked up at either end — that is the most common reason a valid code is reported as invalid.
- Confirm the amountGoogle shows the value about to be added before you accept. Make sure it says SAR and the amount you paid for, then confirm. The balance is usable immediately.
- Choose Google Play balance at checkoutWhen you buy an app, game item or subscription, tap the payment method on the purchase sheet and pick Google Play balance. If the item costs more than your balance, Google asks you to add another payment method for the difference.

The two errors that stop a Saudi card working
“This code can only be used in Saudi Arabia”
This appears at redemption and it means the account’s Play country is not Saudi Arabia. It catches residents more often than visitors: plenty of accounts in the Kingdom were created years ago in another country and never updated, and Google’s community forum has threads from people told this while living in Saudi Arabia. The code is not used up when this happens — it stays valid. Either change the Play country (only if you genuinely live in Saudi Arabia, have a Saudi payment method and have not changed country in the last 90 days) or redeem it on a family member’s account that is already set to Saudi Arabia.
“Your Play balance can only be used in Saudi Arabia”
This one appears at checkout, after the code has already been redeemed. Google’s help page says you must be in the country where the balance was redeemed to spend it, so it typically hits people travelling abroad. Nothing is lost: the balance is still there and becomes usable again once you are back in the Kingdom. If you need to buy something while travelling, use a bank card for that purchase.
