Marvel Tokon Phoenix Cyclops is out now. The first Year 1 DLC fighter for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls unlocked on 2 November 2026 at 09:00 UTC on PS5 and PC. He costs $7.99 on his own, and he is already included if you own the $34.99 Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass, the Digital Deluxe Edition or the Ultimate Edition. If you plan to play the next three fighters as well, the pass is the better buy.

New to the game? We sell all three editions as instant Steam keys: the MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls Digital Deluxe Edition and the Ultimate Edition include Phoenix Cyclops, while the Standard Edition does not. Our Marvel Tokon editions guide compares all three in detail. This page covers the DLC itself: when it unlocked, what it costs in each store, how he plays, what else the launch patch changed and who comes next.

Phoenix Cyclops release date and unlock time

The PlayStation Store lists the release as 2026-11-02T09:00:00Z. Local times are our conversions from that UTC time, taking into account that US daylight saving time ended on 1 November.

PlayStation announced the date on the PlayStation Blog on 7 October, alongside the Phoenix Cyclops gameplay trailer. Only the PlayStation Store gives an exact time. The Steam DLC page shows the date alone, “Nov 2, 2026”. The developers posted the launch patch notes on Steam at 09:00:01 UTC that morning, so PC almost certainly unlocked at the same moment as PS5. As with the base game in August, it was one moment worldwide, which in the Americas meant the middle of the night.

Phoenix Cyclops price and how to get him

Price by store and region

Prices read on 3 November 2026 from Steam’s store data and the PlayStation Store. Nothing in this table was discounted on that date.
ItemSteam USSteam UKSteam EUPS Store USPS Store UK
Phoenix Cyclops (character DLC)$7.99£6.49€7.99$7.99£6.49
Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass$34.99——$34.99£28.99
Phoenix Cyclops Classic Costume Pack$4.99——$4.99—

The character DLC gives you Phoenix Cyclops, eight colour variations, his online lobby avatar and eight colours for that avatar. It needs the base game. In Poland, Steam charges 36 zł. The Classic Costume Pack is a separate $4.99 purchase that adds his Classic and Legacy costumes, and it requires the Phoenix Cyclops DLC or the pass. A Hulk “Joe Fixit” costume pack went on sale on the same day for $4.99.

How to unlock Phoenix Cyclops

  1. Install the 2 November patch
Phoenix Cyclops, his battle theme “Fallen Phoenix”, his All-Star Arena course and his Arcadia Rumble and Survival Souls all arrived with the 2 November update. Update the game on Steam or PS5 first.
  2. Check which edition you own
According to the patch notes, the new content unlocks with the Ultimate Edition, the Digital Deluxe Edition, the Year 1 Character & Stage Pass or the Phoenix Cyclops DLC. If you own any of these, you do not need to buy anything else.
  3. Standard Edition owners: pick one purchase
Buy the $7.99 character on its own, the $34.99 Year 1 pass if you want all four Year 1 fighters, or the $40 Standard-to-Ultimate upgrade, which includes the pass plus the Ultimate costumes.
  4. Add the costume pack if you want it
The $4.99 Classic Costume Pack is optional and is not included in any edition or the pass.

If you are buying the game now, the cheapest way to get Phoenix Cyclops depends on whether you want the rest of the pass. When we checked our store on 3 November, the MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls Standard Edition key cost €69.99 (£59.99), the Digital Deluxe Edition key €94.99 (£79.99) and the Ultimate Edition key €109.99 (£94.99). Those are the same prices as Steam’s own. Standard plus the $7.99 character is the cheapest way to play Cyclops. Digital Deluxe makes sense once you know you also want Thor, Venom and Jubilee.

All three keys are PC keys that you activate on Steam, not PS5 codes. They are “rest of world” keys, so they don’t work in some countries, including the United States. Our product page checks your country before you pay, and our guide on how region locks work explains why. US players can buy the game on Steam itself and fund it with a Steam 10 USD gift card, which covers the $7.99 character on its own. In Europe and the UK, the Steam 10 EUR gift card and the Steam 10 GBP gift card do the same. One PS5 tip: on 3 November the PlayStation Store had the Digital Deluxe Edition 20% off in the US ($67.99) until 5 November, 07:59 UTC, and 18% off in the UK (£65.59) until 4 November, 23:59 UTC. Standard, Ultimate, the pass and Cyclops himself were full price there.

Who Phoenix Cyclops is and how he plays

This is Scott Summers in his Phoenix Five form from the 2012 Avengers vs. X-Men crossover, voiced by Ray Chase. In an interview on the PlayStation Blog, Arc System Works explains that a classic Cyclops was considered for the Unbreakable X-Men team at launch. The narrative team pitched the Phoenix version instead, for a fresher look and a different way of fighting. His official subtitle is “The Cosmic Flame”, and the developers call him an all-rounder: Optic Blast variations for long and close range, wide Phoenix fire attacks, projectiles, rushes and throws. He was first revealed on the PlayStation Blog in July.

Solar Shards and Dark Phoenix

His signature mechanic is a meter. Using his Optic Blasts builds Solar Shards, and once he has four he can transform into Dark Phoenix, a temporary power-up that makes him much stronger but drains his health while it lasts. The idea comes from the same storyline, where the Phoenix Force overwhelms Cyclops. In practice it is a risk-and-reward window: spend it well and you can swing a round; overstay it and you hand your opponent the health you burned. We have not played him ourselves, so how he feels in a match comes from the developers’ description and the gameplay trailer, not from our own testing.

What the 2 November patch changed

Phoenix Cyclops shipped with a large free update for everyone, the “Patch Update – 2 November 2026” on Steam. It does not give a version number. Most of it follows through on what the director promised in his September message after the troubled PC launch, which we covered in our Marvel Tokon editions guide.

PC: benchmark test and shader warm-up

The PC version gains a Benchmark Test that checks your machine before you play online. Players who pass can switch on a matchmaking filter that pairs them only with others who passed, which is a direct answer to complaints about laggy opponents on weak PCs. The shader warm-up, optional until now, is required at every launch, and online match stability has been improved on both platforms. A new icon shows when either side is slowing down during an online match.

Ranked: an easier route to Master

“We had set the conditions to rank up from Vibranium to Master to be highly challenging, but this resulted in fewer players reaching Master rank than anticipated.”

— Arc System Works, Patch Update – 2 November 2026, Steam

The rank-up series from Vibranium to Master now needs 3 wins out of 5 instead of 4 out of 5, and Master matches have a cap on the rating gap between players. Region matchmaking was widened too: “Nearby Regions” searches further, and “All” no longer applies connection-speed limits. The patch also resets everyone’s platform setting to “All”, so PC and PS5 players meet again by default. Choose “Same Platform Only” if you preferred it the other way.

Assists and tag switches

The system-wide change most players will feel is longer cooldowns on Assists and tag switches: 180 frames on Assemble Assists, and 300 frames when an Assist is hit, on Super Assemble and on Member Switch. To balance that, the Assemble Gauge refills faster, and Perfect Reflect and Crossover Reflect now build more gauge. The 2 November notes list bug fixes rather than per-character balance changes. One side effect: replays recorded on older versions no longer play back.

Phoenix Cyclops is already out. He was released on Monday 2 November 2026 at 09:00 UTC (01:00 PST, 04:00 EST, 10:00 CET) on PS5 and PC (Steam), together with a free game update.

Is Phoenix Cyclops included in the Marvel Tokon Year 1 Pass?

Who is the next DLC character in Marvel Tokon after Cyclops?
Thor (Jane Foster) is next. PlayStation’s trailer says she is “coming this winter”. Venom and Jubilee complete the Year 1 roster, and press reports from EVO France place them in spring and summer 2027.

What’s next: Thor, Venom and Jubilee

Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass, as of 3 November 2026. Names are from PlayStation’s official game page. Windows marked “press” are from the EVO France reveal as reported by VGC, not from a first-party page.

When the Year 1 roster was first announced, only Phoenix Cyclops had a name. All three remaining fighters now appear on PlayStation’s characters page as upcoming. The pass’s Steam listing still says everything arrives “by 31 December 2027”. The seasonal windows come from the EVO France reveal reported by VGC, and we will update this table when PlayStation dates them.

Sources & how we checked this

Every date, price and patch detail on this page was read on 3 November 2026. Steam prices came from Steam’s store data for the US, UK, Germany and Poland; PlayStation prices and the release time came from the US and UK PlayStation Store; and our own prices came from the Virtwave product pages, loaded from Poland. We took both screenshots that day. We have not played Phoenix Cyclops, so his moves are described from the developer’s own account.

How we research and update posts is set out in our editorial policy. We will update this page when Thor gets a release date.

Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass — $34.99

Pros
  • Lowest price
  • Everything he comes with: colours, lobby avatar, Arena course
Cons
  • No other Year 1 fighters
  • Costumes cost $4.99 extra

Digital Deluxe Edition — new players

The game, the full Year 1 pass and Phoenix Cyclops in one purchase. It is about $10 cheaper than Standard plus the pass.

Pros
  • Phoenix Cyclops ready on day one
  • Can still be upgraded to Ultimate for $15
Cons
  • Dearer than Standard plus Cyclops if you only want him
