| Rank | Edition | US price | What you get | Buy it if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Digital Deluxe | $84.99 | The game + Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass (4 fighters, 1 stage, result-screen poses) + Howard the Duck lobby avatar + Cosmo lobby pet | You will still be playing when the DLC fighters arrive in 2027 |
| 2 | Standard | $59.99 | The game: 20 launch fighters and every mode | You want to try it first — you can upgrade later at no penalty |
| 3 | Ultimate | $99.99 | Everything in Deluxe + 5 costumes (Spider-Man, Storm, Iron Man, Captain America, Doctor Doom) + Animated Chromatic colours for all 20 launch fighters | You care about those five costumes; the extra $15 is purely cosmetic |
There are three Marvel Tokon editions: Standard at $59.99, Digital Deluxe at $84.99 and Ultimate at $99.99, on the PlayStation Store and Steam alike. The Deluxe Edition adds the Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass — four post-launch fighters and a stage — and the Ultimate Edition adds five costumes and animated colours on top. For most players who plan to stick with it, Deluxe is the best value; Ultimate is a cosmetic upgrade.
MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls has been out since 6 August 2026 on PS5 and PC. We stock both premium editions on PC as instant Steam keys: the MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls Digital Deluxe Edition and the MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls Ultimate Edition. Below is what each edition really contains, how the upgrade prices work out, the launch roster, the season pass roadmap, and the PS Plus and PlayStation-account rules that decide whether you can play online at all.
Marvel Tokon editions: what each one includes
Arc System Works developed the game and PlayStation publishes it, so the edition line-up is the same on the PlayStation Store and on Steam, and all three prices match in US dollars. The base game on its own gives you the full launch roster of 20 fighters and every mode — Episode Mode, Arcadia Rumble, Training, local Versus and online play — so nothing you need to play is locked behind a premium edition. What the dearer editions sell is future content (the Year 1 pass) and cosmetics.
Is the Digital Deluxe Edition worth it?
The Deluxe Edition is effectively the base game plus the season pass at a $10 discount. The Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass costs $34.99 on its own on Steam, so if you are sure you will want the post-launch fighters, Deluxe is the cheaper way to get them. The catch is timing: only one of the four characters has been named, the first one is not due until the last quarter of 2026, and Sony’s own wording says the pass contents are “expected to be made available by 31 December 2027”. You are paying today for fighters that arrive over the next 15 months — worth it for a committed player, a gamble for a curious one.
Is the Ultimate Edition worth it?
The Ultimate Edition is the Deluxe Edition plus $15 of cosmetics: Spider-Man’s “Advanced Suit 2.0” (inspired by Marvel’s Spider-Man 2), Storm’s Punk Rock costume, Iron Man and Captain America Classic costumes, Doctor Doom’s Supreme Ruler costume, and an Animated Chromatic colour unlock for all 20 launch fighters. None of it changes how a character plays. If one of those five is your main and you like the outfit, $15 is a fair price; if not, skip it. One detail to note from the store footnote: the costumes are listed as “available until 5 August 2027”, so the Ultimate bundle and its upgrade are not a forever option.

Upgrading later costs the same
| You own | You buy | Extra cost | Total spent | You end up with |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | Standard → Ultimate upgrade | $40.00 | $99.99 | Everything in Ultimate |
| Digital Deluxe | Deluxe → Ultimate upgrade | $15.00 | $99.99 | Everything in Ultimate |
| Standard | Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass | $34.99 | $94.98 | Deluxe content minus Howard the Duck and Cosmo |
This is the most useful fact on the page. Both upgrade routes land on exactly $99.99, the same as buying Ultimate on day one, so there is no penalty for starting with the Standard Edition and deciding later. There is no Standard-to-Deluxe upgrade, though, and buying the pass on its own ($34.99) costs only $5.01 less than the full Standard-to-Ultimate upgrade ($40) — so if you own Standard and want the DLC fighters, the Ultimate upgrade is the better buy. The store footnote says the costumes are available until 5 August 2027, so do not leave the upgrade much later than that.

Our Deluxe and Ultimate keys: where they work

When we opened our own listings on 24 September, the Digital Deluxe Edition key was 409 zł and the Ultimate Edition key 469 zł — the same as Steam’s own Polish prices. Despite the PlayStation branding, both are PC keys that you activate on Steam (the page lists the platform as PC and the key provider as Steam Works). They are not PS5 codes.
Both are “rest of world” keys, which means they are not tied to one country but they are not global either. Opening the activation check on the page shows a “Not available in” list of roughly 170 countries and territories, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, South Korea, India, Türkiye, Ukraine and the three Baltic states. Countries that are not on that list — the UK, Germany, France, Poland, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Australia among them — can activate the key. Our store only offers the product where the key works, and the page tells you your own country’s result before you pay. If you are new to keys, our guide on where to activate a PC game key explains the steps, and how region locks work covers why the country list matters.
Steam Wallet codes we stock include the Steam 50 USD gift card (United States) — the route for US players, since our Tōkon keys cannot be activated there — plus the Steam 20 GBP gift card (UK) and the Steam 20 EUR gift card (Europe). For PS5, our walkthrough on redeeming a PlayStation gift card on PS5 covers the wallet side. And if you like Sony’s first-party games on PC, our PlayStation Studios games for PC page lists every PlayStation title we carry as a Steam key, including both Tōkon editions.
Release date and how the launch went
MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls launched on 6 August 2026 on PS5 and PC (Steam). Unusually, it did not unlock at midnight: PlayStation’s official game page gives 6 August and 7 August in Japan, Korea, Australia and New Zealand, and the servers came up at 08:00 PDT, 11:00 EDT, 16:00 BST, 17:00 CEST and midnight JST. That was the same moment everywhere, and it followed two PS5 closed betas and an open beta on PS5 and PC from 24 to 26 July.
It sold well — Alinea Analytics estimated more than 485,000 copies in the first week, as GamesRadar reported — and critics liked it: Wikipedia’s reception section lists Metacritic scores of 85 on PS5 and 82 on PC. The PC version is another story. When we checked Steam on 24 September, the game sat at “Mixed” with 3,402 positive and 3,542 negative reviews. The complaints were about stuttering and CPU load, the mandatory PlayStation account, and the game being blocked in countries without PlayStation Network. PS5 players rate it far higher.
“We also recognize that the launch period was impacted by stability issues on PC.”
— Sekine, director of MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, “A Message from the Director”, Steam, 14 September 2026
The team has shipped patches on 10, 21 and 28 August — cutting PC CPU usage, adding a shader warm-up prompt at start-up and fixing heavy processing spikes during matches. The 28 August patch also added a free Wolverine “Battle Reborn” suit for everyone. In the 14 September message, the director said the next changes would rework input buffering and lengthen the cooldowns on some Assists and tag switches, because players are calling Assists far more often than the team expected. He said character balance changes would be minimal for now.
Marvel Tokon roster at launch
| Team | Fighters |
|---|---|
| Fighting Avengers | Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Panther (Shuri) |
| Unbreakable X-Men | Storm, Wolverine, Magik, Danger |
| The Amazing Guardians | Spider-Man, Star-Lord, Peni Parker, Ms. Marvel |
| Knights of Doom | Doctor Doom, Magneto, Green Goblin, Carnage |
| Samurai Outriders | Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes), Blade, Deadpool, Loki |
| Unlockable | The Champion — a 21st fighter outside the five teams |
Tōkon is a 4v4 tag fighter, so you build a team of four, and you are not limited to one of the official squads — mixing teams is the point of the game. If you are worried about buying into a lopsided meta, the director’s September figures are reassuring: every fighter, the Champion included, had a win rate between 48% and 52% (excluding mirror matches). Blade and Magik led at 52%, and Wolverine, Deadpool and the Champion trailed at 48%.
Marvel Tokon season pass: the Year 1 roadmap
| Slot | Content | Window | Status on 24 Sep 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Character 1 | Phoenix Cyclops | October–December 2026 | Announced, no date yet |
| Character 2 | Not revealed | January–March 2027 | Unannounced |
| Character 3 | Not revealed | April–June 2027 | Unannounced |
| Stage | Not revealed | April–June 2027 | Unannounced |
| Character 4 | Not revealed | July–September 2027 | Unannounced |
| Result-screen poses | A set of character poses | At purchase | Available now |
The pass costs $34.99 separately and comes with both the Deluxe and Ultimate editions. Its Steam listing promises “four more iconic Marvel characters, an additional stage” and a set of result-screen poses, with everything expected by 31 December 2027. The first fighter, Phoenix Cyclops, was revealed on the PlayStation Blog on 23 July. He is voiced by Ray Chase and based on the Phoenix Five version of Scott Summers from Avengers vs. X-Men, combining Optic Blasts with the Phoenix Force.
The later release windows come from the roadmap published at launch, reported by EventHubs on 7 August. As of 24 September there is no release date for Phoenix Cyclops and no Cyclops item on Steam yet. The other three fighters and the stage have not been named, and anything you read about their identities is speculation.
PS Plus, cross-play and the PlayStation account on PC
PS5: PS Plus for online play
On PS5 you need a PlayStation Plus subscription for online play — the PlayStation Store listing says “PlayStation Plus subscription (sold separately) required for online play or multiplayer”. Episode Mode, Training, local Versus, All-Star Arena and Arcadia Rumble all work offline without it. PS Plus members also get a free “PlayStation Plus Pack” with five PSN avatars and result-screen poses for the 20 launch fighters. If you still need a membership, our guide to redeeming a PS Plus code and choosing a tier covers the steps.
PC: a free PlayStation account, and where it blocks you
On PC there is no PS Plus requirement, but the Steam page states that online play needs an internet connection and a PlayStation account, and online features — lobby, ranked, casual and room matches — only work once you have linked one. The account is free, but it cannot be created in countries where PlayStation Network does not operate, which is why the Steam version has been reported as unavailable in 132 countries and territories. Steam Deck and other SteamOS devices are also out: when we queried Steam’s compatibility data on 24 September, the game was rated “Unsupported” because of its anti-cheat configuration.
Cross-play and cross-progression
Cross-play between PS5 and PC is supported: PlayStation’s game page lists it, and the Steam page carries the Cross-Platform Multiplayer tag. You can switch it off in the settings, at the cost of longer matchmaking. The 28 August patch also added a Play Area setting for ranked and casual matches, which helps if you are struggling to find opponents. Cross-progression is less clear. Some outlets report that profile progress follows your PlayStation account between PS5 and PC, but neither store page we read promises it, and your purchase does not carry over — each platform is a separate copy.
Marvel Tokon PC requirements
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 11 | Windows 11 |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X | Intel Core i7-8700 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB or AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT 8 GB | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 8 GB or AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT 16 GB |
| Storage | 27 GB | 27 GB |
The minimum spec is steep for a fighting game — an RTX 2060 and 16 GB of RAM at the bottom end, and Windows 11 on both tiers. The game runs locked at 60 fps in battle, up to 4K, and supports DualSense haptics on PC over a wired connection. Given how the PC launch went, run the shader warm-up the game now offers at start-up before you play online, and check the latest patch notes if you are close to the minimum spec.
