Worked examples: 3,500 coins, top-ups and budgets

  1. 3,500 Minecoins

One 3,500 pack, $19.99, is the cheapest way to get there: two 1,720 packs cost $19.98 but stop at 3,440, so you would need a third purchase. At 57.1¢ per 100 it is the second-best rate on the ladder.

  2. 1,500 Minecoins: five small packs or one 1,720?

The strictly cheapest basket is 5 × 320 for $9.95 (1,600 Minecoins, 5 purchases). One 1,720 pack is $9.99 — $0.04 more for a single checkout and 120 more coins. Unless the cents matter to you, buy the one pack.

  3. 3,000 Minecoins

    Cheapest: 1 × 1,720 + 4 × 320 for $17.95 (3,000 Minecoins, 5 purchases). With fewer checkouts: 1 × 1,720 + 1 × 1,020 + 1 × 320 for $17.97 (3,060 Minecoins, 3 purchases). One 3,500 pack is $19.99, $2.04 more, with 500 coins spare for the next item.

  4. 10,000 Minecoins

    More than the biggest pack holds, so it takes several: 2 × 3,500 + 1 × 1,720 + 4 × 320 for $57.93 (10,000 Minecoins, 7 purchases), or 1 × 8,800 + 1 × 1,020 + 1 × 320 for $57.97 (10,140 Minecoins, 3 purchases) with fewer checkouts. The basket works out to 57.9¢ per 100, against 56.8¢ in the 8,800 pack on its own.

  5. A $25 budget

    $25 buys 4,140 Minecoins as 1 × 3,500 + 2 × 320 for $23.97, leaving $1.03. The same $25 would pay for 6.3 months of Marketplace Pass.

  6. Topping up for a 990-coin item with 300 in the wallet

You are 690 Minecoins short. The cheapest top-up is 3 × 320 for $5.97 (960 Minecoins, 3 purchases), which leaves 270 Minecoins over. (990 and 300 are numbers we picked to show the sum, not a sourced item price.)

  7. A year of Marketplace Pass against Minecoins

Twelve months of Marketplace Pass at $3.99 is $47.88; the 8,800 pack is $49.99. The Pass rents a rotating catalogue; Minecoins buy items you keep. Which is better depends on whether you replay the same few packs or try many.

Things that change what Minecoins cost you, and where they work

  1. The strictly cheapest basket is often a stack of 320-coin packs that saves a few cents over one bigger pack. The calculator shows it, then a one-pack alternative — that is usually the one to buy.
  2. Bigger packs are cheaper per coin, but not by much: 100 Minecoins cost 62.2¢ in the 320 pack and 56.8¢ in the 8,800 pack, 8.7% less. Buying ahead only pays if you will spend the coins.
  3. Mojang’s catalogue labels part of each pack as bonus — 800 of the 8,800, for example. The bonus is already in the total; do not add it again.
  4. Minecoins are for the Marketplace in Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, and carry over to Minecraft Legends on the same Microsoft account. They do nothing in Java Edition, and Minecraft.net lists Marketplace Pass as not supported on Java either.
  5. PlayStation sells Minecraft Tokens instead. Minecraft Help says Tokens work only on PlayStation and cannot be converted into Minecoins or back, though non-exclusive content you buy carries across Bedrock platforms.
  6. From 27 October 2026, Minecoins bought on a Switch or Switch 2 stay on Nintendo, and Minecoins bought elsewhere cannot be spent there. Coins you already own go to a Legacy Wallet, still work everywhere, and are spent first. Check the platforms printed on a Minecoin card before buying it for a Switch.
  7. Minecoin purchases are final, per Minecraft.net’s FAQ. Redeeming two codes of the same value in a row can fail with “you already own this product”; open the Marketplace once between them.

How the Minecoins calculator works

Sourced figures
The 5 pack sizes and their bonus coins come from Mojang’s Marketplace catalogue; the US prices from Microsoft’s US store catalogue for the products that catalogue names, matched by the US PlayStation Store’s Token Packs. The Marketplace Pass price, the Bedrock-only rule, the PlayStation Tokens rule, the refund rule and the 27 October 2026 Nintendo change come from Minecraft.net and Minecraft Help.
Minecoins → USD: the cheapest basket
Packs only come in fixed sizes, so “what does this cost” means “which packs reach at least this many Minecoins for the least money”. The calculator runs an exact search over every combination (an unbounded knapsack, not “biggest pack first”); on a tie it picks fewer purchases, then more coins. Beside it, it shows a basket with fewer checkouts and the cheapest single pack that covers the amount.
USD → Minecoins: the most for a budget
For a budget it finds the combination that gives the most Minecoins without going over, and shows what is left unspent, the biggest single pack you could buy instead, and how many months of Marketplace Pass the same money would pay for.
What a balance is worth
A balance is valued at two pack rates — the best (the largest pack) and the worst (the smallest) — because the same Minecoins cost a different amount depending on which pack they came from.
What we assume
Prices are US prices before sales tax, and we assume no limited-time sale is running. We assume the Microsoft catalogue price is what Minecraft charges on Xbox and Windows, and that Minecraft.net charges the same; we did not reach a checkout. The “fewer checkouts” basket treats each extra purchase as worth $0.25 of hassle — our choice, not a store figure. Marketplace Pass months are simple division by $3.99, ignoring the free trial.

What we checked on 14 October 2026, and what we could not

We read every price in this tool on 14 October 2026. Mojang’s own Marketplace catalogue — the coin page that Minecraft.net’s Buy Minecoins page loads — listed 5 Minecoin offers, 320, 1,020, 1,720, 3,500, 8,800 coins, each with the Microsoft Store product that sells it. We work from Poland, so to rule out local pricing we asked Microsoft’s catalogue for those 5 products with the market set to US: $1.99 to $49.99, each with a Purchase action.

On the US PlayStation Store, Minecraft sells the same 5 sizes as “Token Packs”, and each listing’s data carried the same dollar price to the cent. Tokens are PlayStation’s separate currency; we include them because the sizes and prices match, not because they are interchangeable.

The catalogue also tags part of every pack above 320 as bonus (60 of 1,020, 120 of 1,720, 300 of 3,500, 800 of 8,800). The prices are for the whole pack, so the calculator works with the totals.

We did not check prices on iOS, Android, or the Nintendo eShop, any country other than the US, or the Minecoin price of individual Marketplace items — those vary by creator and sale, so the calculator lets you type the price you see. We did not buy anything.

Minecoins questions, answered

How much are Minecoins in USD?

In the US, before sales tax: 320 for $1.99, 1,020 for $5.99, 1,720 for $9.99, 3,500 for $19.99, 8,800 for $49.99. Microsoft’s US store catalogue and the US PlayStation Store (where the same sizes are sold as Tokens) listed the same prices on 14 October 2026. Per 100 Minecoins that runs from 62.2¢ in the 320 pack down to 56.8¢ in the 8,800 pack.

How much is 3,500 Minecoins?

$19.99 as one 3,500 pack — the cheapest way to get exactly that many, since two 1,720 packs ($19.98) stop short at 3,440. Mojang’s catalogue counts 300 of the 3,500 as bonus coins.

How many Minecoins do you get for $10, $20 or $50?

$10 buys 1,720 Minecoins (1 × 1,720, $9.99); $20 buys 3,500 Minecoins (1 × 3,500); $50 buys 8,800 Minecoins (1 × 8,800). Unspent: $0.01 of $10, $0.01 of $20, $0.01 of $50.

How much is 1 Minecoin worth in USD?

Between 0.568¢ and 0.622¢, depending on the pack — a little over half a cent. That is 161 to 176 Minecoins per dollar. This is what Minecoins cost to buy; Minecraft does not buy them back, and Minecraft.net says Minecoin purchases are final.

What is the best value Minecoins pack?

The 8,800 pack at $49.99: 56.8¢ per 100, 176 Minecoins per dollar. The worst is the 320 pack at 62.2¢. The gap is small — 8.7% — so buying a bigger pack than you need rarely pays off unless you will spend the rest.

How many Minecoins do I need to buy 3,000?

The strictly cheapest basket is 1 × 1,720 + 4 × 320 for $17.95 (5 purchases). One 3,500 pack is $19.99 — $2.04 more for one checkout and 500 spare.

Do Minecoins work on Java Edition or PlayStation?

Not on Java Edition: Minecoins are spent in the Minecraft Marketplace in Minecraft: Bedrock Edition (and carry over to Minecraft Legends on the same Microsoft account). PlayStation has its own currency, Minecraft Tokens, which Minecraft Help says are usable only on PlayStation and cannot be converted into Minecoins or back. Non-exclusive content bought with either currency does carry across Bedrock platforms.

What changes for Minecoins on Nintendo Switch?

From 27 October 2026, Minecoins bought on a Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 can be spent only on Nintendo devices, and Minecoins bought anywhere else can no longer be spent there. Coins you own before that date move to a Legacy Wallet: they keep working on every platform they worked on before, never expire, and are spent first. Mojang announced the change on 1 September 2026.

Is Marketplace Pass cheaper than buying Minecoins?

Marketplace Pass is $3.99 a month for a rotating catalogue of Marketplace content, which leaves when it leaves the catalogue — character creator items you claim are yours to keep. $9.99, the price of 1,720 Minecoins, pays for 2.5 months of the Pass. Minecoins buy items you keep. Realms Plus already includes Marketplace Pass.

Can you get a refund on Minecoins?

Minecraft.net’s Minecoins FAQ says all Minecoin purchases are final and cannot be refunded; for an unauthorized purchase on Minecraft.net it points you to Microsoft Support. If a second code for the same pack size will not redeem, Minecraft Help says to open the Marketplace once after the first code before redeeming the second.
