Epic Games Store Statistics 2026: Users, Spending, Free Games & Revenue Share
The Epic Games Store had more than 317 million PC users at the end of 2025 and a record 78 million monthly active users in December 2025. PC players spent $1.16 billion on the store in 2025, $400 million of it on third-party games (up 57%), and claimed 662 million free games. Every figure comes from Epic’s own reports.

Key takeaways
- The Epic Games Store has grown from 108 million PC customers in 2019 to more than 317 million in 2025, and hit a record 78 million monthly active users in December 2025.
- Player spending reached $1.16 billion in 2025, up 6%, and spending on third-party games jumped 57% to a record $400 million after two years of decline.
- Average usage is flat: average monthly active users were 67 million in 2025 (−1%) and average daily users 31 million (−2%), so the record is a December peak, not a new baseline.
- Epic has given away at least 559 free games since 2019 and players have claimed roughly 4.2 billion copies; in 2025 alone 662 million were claimed, worth $2,316 per player at list price.
- Developers have kept 100% of their first $1 million in net revenue per game per year since 1 June 2025, then 88%; the 88/12 split itself has not changed since the store opened in December 2018.
- The mobile store has been a harder road: 29 million installs by January 2025, well short of Epic’s goal of 100 million by the end of 2024.

The Epic Games Store has added PC users every year, from 108 million in 2019 to more than 317 million in 2025, but the yearly gain has shrunk from 52 million in 2020 to about 22 million in 2025. Active use tells a flatter story: December MAU set a record of 78 million in 2025, yet the average across the year was 67 million, slightly down on 2024, and average daily users fell 2% to 31 million. What the “317 million” does not say is how many people use the store today: it is a running total of everyone who has ever used it, many of them once, to claim a free game or install Fortnite.[7][6][2][1]
How much do players spend on the Epic Games Store?
$1.16 billion
spent by PC players on the Epic Games Store (+6%)

$255 million
third-party spending through Epic payments in 2024 (−18%)
The low point of the series, after $355 million in 2022 and $310 million in 2023, while total spending rose 15% to $1.09 billion.
34%
share of 2025 store spending that went to third-party games
Our calculation: $400 million of $1.16 billion. Epic itself gave 37% for 2020 and 36% for 2021; the 2024 share was 23% by the same calculation.
$680 million
spent by PC players in the store’s first full year, $251 million of it on third-party games
Epic said the figure was actual spending and excluded coupons and Epic’s funding of developers.

Total spending on the store has risen in five of six years, from $680 million in 2019 to $1.16 billion in 2025, but most of that growth came from Epic’s own games: third-party spending was $251 million in 2019 and only $255 million in 2024. 2025 broke that pattern, with third-party spending up 57% to a record $400 million. Two things make the third-party line understate developers’ income on the store. It leaves out every purchase in games that run their own payment systems, which Epic said held 35% of third-party playtime in 2025, and it is spending, not developer revenue after Epic’s 12% (or 0%) cut.[7][2][1]
How much time do players spend on the Epic Games Store?
6.65 billion hours
total gameplay hours on the Epic Games Store (−14%)
Down from 7.72 billion in 2024. The drop came from Epic’s own games; third-party hours rose.
2.78 billion hours

Up from 2.41 billion in 2023 and 2.68 billion in 2024. Third-party games were 42% of all store playtime in 2025 (our calculation).

Playtime on the store fell 14% in 2025, from 7.72 billion to 6.65 billion hours, while third-party playtime grew for a second year to 2.78 billion hours. Since Epic’s own games (above all Fortnite) make up the rest, the decline is Epic’s, not its partners’: third-party games went from about 35% of store hours in 2024 to about 42% in 2025 by our calculation. Hours measure engagement, not money; more than a third of third-party hours were in games whose purchases Epic does not process.[2][1]

Epic has run its free games program every year since the store opened, with one free game every two weeks at the start and weekly games since. Claims peaked at more than 765 million in 2021, dipped below 600 million in 2023 and 2024, and recovered to 662 million in 2025. Epic’s argument for it is discovery: more than 77% of 2025’s free games set a store concurrency record in their free week, and Epic measured a 40% lift on Steam at the same time. What the claim counts do not say is how many people play: a claim adds a game to a library, and the same accounts claim week after week.[9][5][3][2][1]
How many games are on the Epic Games Store?
6,000+
games in the Epic Games Store catalogue
Up from more than 4,000 products at the end of 2024 and 190 games in 2019.
1,100
games released on the Epic Games Store in 2024
After more than 1,300 new PC titles in 2023 and 626 in 2022, driven by the self-publishing tools that left beta in 2023.
187 countries

From Epic’s developer distribution page, which still quotes “over 295 million” users.

The catalogue grew thirtyfold in six years, from 190 games in 2019 to more than 6,000 in 2025. The jump follows the self-publishing tools: they entered closed beta in August 2021 and launched fully in 2023, the year Epic added more than 1,300 new PC titles. A bigger catalogue is not the same as a full one: the store still lacks many PC games that sell elsewhere, and Epic does not publish how many of its 6,000 games sell in meaningful numbers.[6][5][3][1]
The Epic Games Store on mobile
29 million
installs of the Epic Games Store on mobile devices
From launch on 16 August 2024 to 23 January 2025, against Epic’s goal of 100 million by the end of 2024.
50%+
of attempts to install the store on Android or iOS that failed
Epic blames Apple’s and Google’s warning screens; a further 5 million attempts in the EU were blocked by Apple’s eligibility requirements.
- 16 August 2024: the store launches on Android worldwide and on iPhone in the European Union, with Fortnite, Rocket League Sideswipe and Fall Guys.
- 23 January 2025: the first third-party games arrive, 17 on Android worldwide and 15 on iOS in the EU; Epic reports 29 million installs since launch.
- 2025: Epic’s review lists third-party titles and the Free Games Program on the mobile store, and Epic Web Shops let developers sell outside app stores on PC and mobile.
- December 2025 – January 2026: the Epic Games App companion launches on iOS, then Android.
- 2026 plans (from the 2025 review): iOS expansion in Japan in March and Brazil in June.
Epic aimed for 100 million mobile installs by the end of 2024 and reported 29 million by late January 2025. It attributes the gap to the install process on Android and iOS, where it says more than half of attempts fail, and in January 2025 said none of the 100 highest-grossing mobile game developers would yet distribute through the store. Epic has not published a newer install count on its own pages, so later totals quoted in the press are not included here.[16]
Fortnite creator economy: Epic’s own numbers
$352 million
paid to Fortnite island creators in 2024
Up 11% comparing March–December of each year. Fortnite is Epic’s own game and the store’s biggest title.
36.5%
of all Fortnite playtime spent in creator-made islands (5.23 billion hours)
Up 5% from 4.98 billion hours in 2023.
70,000
Fortnite creators in 2024, nearly triple the 24,000 of 2023
They published 198,000 islands, 137,000 of them built in Unreal Editor for Fortnite.
Fortnite is not a third-party game, but it shapes every store figure above: it is listed among the store’s top PC titles in every review from 2022 to 2025, and its creator islands are now a store of their own. In 2024 Epic paid $352 million to island creators, and 36.5% of Fortnite playtime (5.23 billion hours) was in creator-made islands. These figures come from Fortnite’s ecosystem review, not from the store’s, and they are not part of the store’s third-party spending.[17][4][3][2][1]

Methodology and caveats
Every figure was read by our team on 15 October 2026 from Epic’s own pages: the Epic Games Store Year in Review posts for 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, Epic’s January 2020 recap of 2019, the developer distribution page, the 2025 revenue-share and Web Shops announcements, the 2023 Epic First Run announcement, the 2018 launch posts, two Epic newsroom posts on the mobile store and Fortnite’s 2024 ecosystem review. No third-party statistics sites were used.
Where a Year in Review gives a figure both in its text and in its “Data & Stats Summary” and they differ, we use the summary and note the text figure. The 2019 and 2020 figures appear only in infographic images on Epic’s posts; we read them from the images.
Shares, sums and some changes are our own arithmetic on Epic’s figures and are marked “our calculation”. Epic will publish its 2026 review in early 2027; we will add it and log any changes in the update history.
- “PC users” is a cumulative count of everyone who has used the store on PC, not a count of active users. Use monthly or daily active users for current reach.
- December MAU is the yearly peak. The 2025 record (78 million) sits beside a slightly lower yearly average (67 million).
- Third-party spending counts only payments Epic processes. Games with their own payment systems are left out, so the series understates what third-party games earn on the store and is not comparable across years in which big games changed payment method.
- Spending definitions shift: 2019 and 2020 exclude coupons and Epic funding; 2025 is consumer retail spend including taxes. Spending is not Epic’s revenue or developers’ revenue.
- Free-game “claims” count games added to libraries, not unique players or games played. “Value per player” is the total list price of every free game in the year.
- Catalogue counts mix “games”, “titles” and “products” from year to year. Epic has not published peak concurrent users since 2021 or total hours for 2022 and 2023.

Epic Games Store Statistics 2026: FAQ
How many people use the Epic Games Store?
The Epic Games Store had more than 317 million PC users at the end of 2025, according to Epic. Active use is lower: a record 78 million people used it in December 2025, the year’s average was 67 million monthly active users and about 31 million used it on an average day.
How much money does the Epic Games Store make?
PC players spent $1.16 billion on the Epic Games Store in 2025, up 6% from $1.09 billion in 2024, according to Epic. That is player spending including Epic’s own games such as Fortnite, not Epic’s profit; $400 million of it was spent on third-party games.
Is the Epic Games Store growing?
Partly. Epic Games Store PC users rose to more than 317 million in 2025, December monthly active users hit a record 78 million and third-party spending jumped 57% to $400 million. But average monthly users slipped 1% to 67 million and total playtime fell 14% to 6.65 billion hours.
How many free games has Epic given away?
Epic gave away 559 free games from 2019 to 2025, including 100 in 2025, and players claimed roughly 4.2 billion copies in that time. In 2025 alone, 662 million free games were claimed, worth $2,316 per player at list price.
What percentage does Epic Games Store take from developers?
