The Metaphor: ReFantazio Switch 2 release date is Thursday 12 November 2026, and the Standard Edition costs $39.99 on the US Nintendo eShop. That is $30 less than its $69.99 list price on PlayStation, Xbox and Steam, two years after Atlus’s RPG first launched there. Nintendo estimates a 62.1 GB download, which puts it among the largest games on the system. Pre-orders are open and include a free item bonus until 11 November.
The date comes from SEGA’s announcement of 9 June 2026; the prices, editions and size we read from the store listings ourselves on 12 October. We don’t sell the Switch 2 version, but a $20 Nintendo eShop card twice over covers the $39.99 Standard Edition, and a $50 Nintendo eShop card covers the $49.99 Guidebook Edition to the cent. If you would rather play on PC, a $50 Steam gift card plus a $20 card covers the Steam price.
Metaphor: ReFantazio Switch 2 release date
SEGA and Atlus announced the Switch 2 version during the June 2026 Nintendo Direct and gave the date as 12 November 2026. When we opened the US Nintendo Store page on 12 October, it said “Releases 11/12/26” and offered a Pre-order button for the digital Standard Edition. Neither SEGA nor Nintendo has published an unlock time yet: the store’s page data carries the date only, with no hour attached, so any “midnight” time you see elsewhere is a guess. SEGA’s release adds a limited Steelbook Edition of the physical game, available at launch while stocks last.
Pre-order bonus and pre-load
Pre-ordering on the eShop lets you pre-load, so the game is ready to start as soon as it unlocks — Nintendo prints that line directly under the Pre-order button. The publisher notice on the same page lists two consumable item sets for anyone who pre-orders before Wednesday 11 November at 8:59 PM Pacific:
- Archetype EXP Chest Set: 10 Hero’s Incenses (+100 Archetype EXP each) and 5 Hero’s Fruits (+500 each).
- Adventurer’s Journey Pack: 30,000 Reeve (the in-game currency), 5 Expensive Medicines, 5 Revival Medicines, 3 Magical Breads and 2 Stale Blackbreads.
- You collect both at the in-game facility “Akademeia” after downloading the DLC.
These are early-game boosts, not exclusive costumes, so missing the window costs you little. The costume and battle music sets are sold separately or bundled in the bigger editions below.
Is it coming to the original Switch?
No. The listing is a Nintendo Switch 2 product only: its size data has a Switch 2 entry and an empty entry for the original Switch, and no Switch 1 edition exists on the store. There is also no free upgrade path from another console, because there was never a Switch 1 version to upgrade from.
Metaphor: ReFantazio Switch 2 price and editions
| Edition | US price | Canada | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | $39.99 | CA$53.49 | The base game |
| Guidebook Edition | $49.99 | CA$66.99 | Base game, a 55-page Essential Digital Strategy Guide (English only), Digital Artbook, Digital Soundtrack, and two costume sets: Shujin Academy (Persona 5) and Jouin High School (Shin Megami Tensei V) |
| Atlus 35th Digital Anniversary Edition | $69.99 | CA$93.49 | Base game, Digital Artbook and Soundtrack, the Atlus 35th Digital History Book and All-Time Best Soundtrack, and eight costume & battle-music sets (Persona 2–5, Persona, SMT IV and V, Etrian Odyssey) |
The strategy guide in the Guidebook Edition is a cut-down, re-edited version of Future Press’s 592-page printed guide: it walks you through the first story arc, then gives an optimised calendar for the rest. Bought on their own, the costume sets are listed at $4.99 each on the Switch 2 store, so eight of them would cost about $40 — which is why the $30 step from Standard to Atlus 35th is the better deal if you want the Persona uniforms at all. The UK, European and Australian eShops did not have the game listed yet when we checked, so we have no £, € or A$ prices to give you.

Switch 2 vs PS5, Xbox and Steam
Every edition is exactly $30 cheaper on Switch 2. We checked the other stores the same morning: Steam’s US price for the base game is $69.99, with the Guidebook Edition at $79.99, the Atlus 35th Edition at $99.99 and an Atlus 35th upgrade at $34.99. Microsoft’s US catalogue has the base game at $69.99 and the Atlus 35th Edition at $99.99. On Steam the game holds a “Very Positive” rating, with 90% of 43,589 reviews positive.
The PS5 sale that undercuts it until 22 October
“What we saw: on 12 October the US PlayStation Store had the PS4 & PS5 Standard Edition at $27.99, 60% off its $69.99 price, with the offer ending on 22 October at 06:59 UTC. Its “lowest price in the last 30 days” line still said $69.99, so this is a fresh discount.”

So if you own a PS5 and do not care about playing handheld, the cheapest legal copy of Metaphor: ReFantazio right now is on the PlayStation Store, $12 under the Switch 2 price. After 22 October that flips back and the Switch 2 version is the cheapest way in. A PlayStation Plus Premium five-hour game trial is listed on the same page.

Metaphor: ReFantazio Switch 2 file size
Nintendo’s store data gives an estimated size of 66,646,441,984 bytes for the Switch 2 version, which the store displays as 62.1 GB (Nintendo divides by 2³⁰). Estimates move: Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen was estimated at 54.0 GB and shipped at 49.6 GB. On the figures we track for our Switch 2 storage calculator, only two games are bigger:
| Game | Size | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade | 90.4 GB | Final |
| Split Fiction | 69.2 GB | Final |
| Metaphor: ReFantazio | 62.1 GB | Estimate |
| Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition | 60.6 GB | Final |
| Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen | 49.6 GB | Final |
To see whether it fits alongside what you already have installed, add it in our Switch 2 storage calculator, which now includes Metaphor’s estimate. On a slow connection, the game download time calculator tells you how long 62.1 GB takes — a good reason to pre-load.

What Atlus has not said yet
As of 12 October there is no published resolution or frame-rate target for the Switch 2 version, no mention of mouse controls, no Switch 2 demo (the free Prologue demo exists on the other platforms), no unlock time, and nothing on carrying a save over from PS5, Xbox or PC. We will update this post when Nintendo or SEGA publish any of it, and again on launch day with the final download size.

How we work is set out in our editorial policy. If you are paying with eShop credit, our guide to redeeming a Nintendo eShop card covers the common errors. Other Switch 2 releases we are tracking: Stellar Blade Complete Edition and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, both on 5 November, Final Fantasy Resonance on 22 October, and the already-released Tales of Eternia Remastered, which has separate Switch and Switch 2 versions with no upgrade between them. For how many Switch 2 consoles are out there to play it on, see our Nintendo Switch statistics report.
