The Final Fantasy Resonance release date is Thursday 22 October 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam and the Microsoft Store). The PlayStation Store and the Xbox catalogue both put the unlock at 04:00 UTC, which is the evening of Wednesday 21 October in North America. The Standard Edition is $49.99, the Digital Deluxe Edition $59.99 and the physical Collector’s Edition $209.99, per Square Enix’s announcement. Virtwave does not sell the game itself, but a $50 Steam gift card covers the Standard Edition on Steam with a cent to spare, and the $50 Xbox gift card does the same on Xbox and the Microsoft Store.

Square Enix announced 22 October 2026 in June, and the date has not moved since. The exact time is not in any press release, so we went to the storefronts. On 4 October we read the page data behind the US PlayStation Store listing, which stores the release as 2026-10-22T04:00:00Z, and Microsoft’s product catalogue, which gives the same 04:00 UTC as the first available date for both the Standard and Digital Deluxe Editions. Steam shows only “Coming Oct 22, 2026” and Nintendo only “Releases 10/22/26”, so treat 04:00 UTC as confirmed for PlayStation and Xbox and likely, not confirmed, for the other two.

Can you pre-load it? The demo is the head start

None of the four storefronts we checked on 4 October advertised a pre-load date yet, so we cannot promise one. What you can do right now is better: the free demo has been out since 3 September 2026 on every platform, and the Steam store page says your saved data carries over to the full game. Square Enix’s demo announcement describes it as the opening through the first chapter, roughly 3–5 hours. Neither page says a demo save moves between platforms, so play the demo on the system you plan to buy on. If you want to know how long the full download will take on your connection, plug the sizes below into our game download time calculator.

Pre-order and early purchase bonuses

There are two separate bonuses, and they are easy to confuse. Pre-ordering any edition before launch gets the Magitek Airship & Squire Starter Pack: a Magitek Airship Passkey that reskins your airship, a Knight’s Greatsword, a Chestplate of Preparation (extra battle EXP), a Magicite Shard, three Tents and three Mist Potions. Buying any time up to early November also gets the Squire Kickstart Pack: a Blessed Cuirass (extra gil) and a Mist Ether. The cut-off for the second one is not the same on every store we read.

Every bonus item, Deluxe ones included, is claimed in-game from the postbox in front of the inn in the Town of Mitra, after you progress past a certain point. Both stores also warn that the Deluxe Pack is sold separately, so do not buy the Digital Deluxe Edition and the upgrade.

Is the Digital Deluxe Edition worth it?

Standard Edition — $49.99

9.0/10
Best for: Most players, and anyone coming in from the demo

The full game, plus the pre-order bonus if you buy before launch. The Deluxe Pack stays on sale later, so nothing is locked out for good.

Pros
  • Same game and story as Deluxe
  • Fits a $50 wallet card exactly
  • Pre-order and early purchase bonuses still apply
Cons
  • No Magitek Armor chocobo look
  • No Fel Meteor Limit Burst item

Digital Deluxe Edition — $59.99

6.0/10
Best for: Fans who want the chocobo skin and the extra Limit Burst

Two of the items are exclusive to the pack: the Magitek Armor Key and the Archwitch’s Grimoire. The rest is a stack of early-game consumables that stop mattering a few hours in.

Pros
  • The two exclusive items
  • $5 cheaper than the $14.99 upgrade bought later (Nintendo eShop price)
Cons
  • Most of the pack is Tents, Potions, Ethers and Phoenix Downs
  • Digital only

Switch or Switch 2: no upgrade, no save transfer

“There are no plans to sell an upgrade pack to upgrade the Nintendo Switch version to the Nintendo Switch 2 version.”

— Square Enix, Publisher notice on the US Nintendo Store page for the Switch version, read 4 October 2026
This is the single most important thing for Nintendo players to know before pre-ordering. Final Fantasy Resonance is sold as two separate games on Nintendo: a Nintendo Switch version and a Nintendo Switch 2 version, both $49.99. The same notice goes on to say save data cannot move from the Switch version to the Switch 2 version, or the other way. The Switch version does run on a Switch 2 (the page marks it “Supported”), but if you own a Switch 2, or plan to buy one, buy the Switch 2 version, because there is no paid route between them later.
Publisher notes on the US Nintendo Store page for the Switch version of Final Fantasy Resonance: the early purchase bonus deadline of 5 November 2026, no plans for a Switch to Switch 2 upgrade pack, no save transfer in either direction, and estimated file sizes of 8.8 GB on Switch and 12.7 GB on Switch 2

Final Fantasy Resonance file size

Final Fantasy Resonance download sizes by platform, 4 October 2026. Xbox and Microsoft Store sizes are the maximum download sizes in Microsoft’s catalogue, shown here in decimal GB. Nintendo sizes are the store page’s own estimates. Sony had not published a PS5 size.

Nintendo Switch 212.7 GB (estimated)Nintendo Store page
Nintendo Switch8.8 GB (estimated)Nintendo Store page
PS5Not published yet—

Square Enix calls this an HD-2D game, and at about 14 GB it is a small download by 2026 standards. The Nintendo figures are estimates. When we read the page data behind the Nintendo listings, the final size fields were already a little smaller than the estimates the page prints, so expect the real download to come in at or below 12.7 GB on Switch 2.

Switch 2 owners juggling a 256 GB console can check what still fits with our Switch 2 storage calculator. The same tool explains why Nintendo’s “GB” and the number printed on a microSD Express card do not match. It was built for Ocarina of Time on Switch 2, which lands two weeks after Resonance.

PC requirements, Steam Deck and Denuvo

Final Fantasy Resonance PC requirements as listed on Steam, 4 October 2026. Both tiers need Windows 11 64-bit and DirectX 12.
Minimum (1080p, 30 fps, Low)Recommended (1080p, 60 fps, Highest)
CPUAMD Ryzen 3 2300X / Intel Core i3-8100AMD Ryzen 5 2500X / Intel Core i3-8100
GPUAMD Radeon RX 6400 / Intel Arc A580 / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT / Intel Arc A580 / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650
RAM8 GB8 GB
Storage15 GB15 GB
OSWindows 11 (64-bit)Windows 11 (64-bit)
Those are modest specs: a GTX 1650 appears in both columns, so the step from 30 to 60 fps is mostly about the CPU. Windows 11 is listed for both tiers, so Windows 10 is not officially supported. Two details from the Steam page are worth knowing before you buy there. Valve already rates it Steam Deck Verified. The page also carries a Denuvo Anti-tamper notice and a third-party EULA. Full English voice acting is listed alongside Japanese and Korean audio, with French, German, Spanish and both Chinese scripts as text only.

Final Fantasy Resonance FAQs

When does Final Fantasy Resonance come out?
Final Fantasy Resonance comes out on Thursday 22 October 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC. The PlayStation Store and the Xbox catalogue both list the unlock at 04:00 UTC, which is 9 p.m. Pacific and midnight Eastern on the night of 21 October.
How much is Final Fantasy Resonance?
The Standard Edition costs $49.99 on every platform. The Digital Deluxe Edition is $59.99 and the physical Collector’s Edition, with an artbook, soundtrack and a trading card, is $209.99. Nintendo also lists a $14.99 Digital Deluxe Upgrade for people who bought the Standard Edition.
Can you upgrade Final Fantasy Resonance from Switch to Switch 2?
No. Square Enix states on the Nintendo Store page that there are no plans to sell an upgrade pack from the Switch version to the Switch 2 version, and that save data cannot be carried between the two versions in either direction. If you play on Switch 2, buy the Switch 2 version.
Does the Final Fantasy Resonance demo carry over?
Yes. Square Enix says demo save data carries over to the full game. The demo covers the opening and the first chapter, about 3–5 hours, and is free on all five platforms. Square Enix does not say a demo save moves between platforms, so play it where you will buy the game.
Is Final Fantasy Resonance a remake of Brave Exvius?
It is based on the first story arc of the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, rebuilt as a full console RPG in Square Enix’s HD-2D pixel-art style. It is a one-off purchase, and Square Enix describes it as a strategic turn-based RPG.
Is Final Fantasy Resonance on Steam Deck?
Yes. The Steam store page shows Final Fantasy Resonance as Steam Deck Verified. It needs 15 GB of space and uses Denuvo Anti-tamper DRM.

What kind of game is Final Fantasy Resonance?

It is the first Final Fantasy in the HD-2D style Square Enix used for Octopath Traveler and the Dragon Quest III remake: pixel-art characters in 3D scenery with dynamic camera angles. The story is the first arc of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, the 2016 mobile game, “extensively rebuilt” as a console RPG, according to Square Enix. Battles are turn-based and you summon Visions to help. Chocobos, espers and airships are in, and Square Enix lists Cloud, Tidus and the Warrior of Light as cameos. Sephiroth can be found and challenged for a special reward. Square Enix co-developed it with LANCARSE. It is single-player only, rated ESRB Everyone 10+, and Microsoft’s listing tags the Xbox version as Play Anywhere, so one purchase covers Xbox and Windows.

Paying with a Steam, Xbox or eShop gift card

The game costs the same $49.99 everywhere, so the store you pick decides the card you need. On Steam, a Steam 50 USD gift card covers the Standard Edition, and adding a Steam 10 USD card covers the Digital Deluxe Edition. Our Steam gift card guide shows how to redeem one. On Nintendo, a Nintendo eShop 50 USD card pays for either version, and a 20 USD eShop card covers the $14.99 Deluxe Upgrade. See how to redeem a Nintendo eShop card. Wallet cards are region-locked, and every price here is a US price, so buy the card for the region your account is set to.
