You will get more out of it if you have played them, but it is not a wall. Spider-Man 2 is the third game in one continuity and picks up threads from both earlier ones — Peter’s friendships and losses from the first, Miles’s year in the suit from the second — without stopping to explain them. It is perfectly playable cold; it is simply a better story when you arrive knowing who these people are.
If you have time for only one, play the first game. Spider-Man 2 is built around Peter Parker, Mary Jane and Harry Osborn, and that is where their story starts. Miles Morales is the shorter of the two and fills in Miles’s side, which matters, but less.
Three games, one continuity. The PC versions arrived years after each console launch.
Peter Parker eight years into the job, and the first appearance of Miles Morales. On PC as Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, which includes The City That Never Sleeps story chapters.
A shorter, self-contained story with Miles in the suit while Peter is away. It is the bridge: Spider-Man 2 opens with both of them as Spider-Man.
Both Spider-Men, a New York expanded with Brooklyn and Queens, and Venom. Released on PC on 30 January 2025.
The port is by Nixxes Software, the studio behind the PC versions of both earlier games, and it is built for PC hardware rather than wrapped around a console build. Frame rates are unlocked; NVIDIA DLSS 3 and AMD FSR 3.1 are both there for upscaling and frame generation, with Intel XeSS for upscaling; ray-traced reflections, shadows and ambient occlusion are all available, with DLSS Ray Reconstruction on RTX cards. Ultrawide 21:9 and 32:9 are supported, and 48:9 across three monitors.
A PlayStation Network account is optional, and has been since the PC launch. Signing in adds trophies, the PlayStation overlay and two suits — the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit for Peter and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit — but nothing in the game is locked behind it. Mouse and keyboard are fully supported; a wired DualSense adds haptics and adaptive triggers.
The Digital Deluxe Edition is the same game with more outfits and a few things unlocked early. No story, district or villain is held back from the Standard Edition.
The right choice unless the suits matter to you.
The early unlocks save you a few hours rather than adding anything — the gadget and the skill points come in the base game as you play. The ten exclusive suits are the real difference.
Spider-Man 2 is one of Sony’s newer PC releases, and newer first-party titles are discounted less often and less deeply than the back catalogue. The waves still come at the same points in the year; what changes is how far the price moves in each.
