Patch 9.1 Released
- Added support latest FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) technology from AMD

The publisher’s own description, further down this page, tells you what the game is. This tells you what the PC release is for, which of the two editions is worth the money, and when this one usually goes on sale.

Almost certainly not, if you have played none of them. Ragnarök is the direct second half of a two-part story that began with God of War (2018), and it opens on the consequences of that game’s ending rather than re-introducing anyone. It carries a recap, but the relationship it spends forty hours paying off is one you will not have watched being built. Play the 2018 game first — it is cheap, it is short by comparison, and it is the reason this one lands.
If you have played it, this is the sequel to buy and there is nothing else in between. The older games — the 2005–2013 Greek trilogy — are a different genre on a different console and nothing here depends on them.
This is a port built for PC hardware rather than a console build in a wrapper, handled by Jetpack Interactive alongside Santa Monica Studio — the same pairing that did the PC release of the 2018 game. The point of it is the things a PlayStation cannot do: frame rates above the console cap, ultrawide and super-ultrawide aspect ratios, and the current generation of upscalers so the frame rate you want is reachable on hardware you already own.
It is one purchase with no subscription attached. The key goes into your Steam library and stays there — the same copy on any PC you sign in on, saves in the cloud, and Steam Deck handled through the usual Steam route rather than a second storefront.
Two editions are sold and the difference is smaller than the price gap suggests: nothing playable is held back from the cheaper one.
The right choice for almost everyone.
Worth the difference only if you want the art and music. It adds no quests, areas or abilities — the cosmetics change how the armour looks, not what it does.
A PlayStation Network account is optional. The notice in the publisher’s description below still says it is required — that wording predates January 2025, when Sony made signing in optional for this game on PC. Linking a free account adds trophies, the PlayStation overlay and the Armor of the Black Bear set for Kratos; the game plays exactly the same without it.
Availability is regional. Sony licenses this catalogue country by country and it is not sold everywhere. Everything on this page is already resolved for the country you are browsing from, so if you can see a price, the key works where you are.
First-party PlayStation titles are discounted in waves rather than drifting down week to week, and the waves land at roughly the same points every year. The shape of that calendar is more useful than watching the price daily.
We do not publish a sale before it starts — dates reach us from our distribution channel under embargo and are the publisher’s to announce. What we do is show a live countdown the moment one begins, with the deepest discount in it, on the PlayStation page.
The first real window of the year, and usually a modest one on first-party titles.
One of the two big ones. Back-catalogue PlayStation titles are typically at their deepest of the first half of the year.
Horror-weighted, so it favours the darker end of the catalogue — a smaller event for this title.
The most reliable window of the year for a first-party discount, and the one most people wait for.
The other big one, and the one that most often matches or beats Black Friday on older titles.
Tied to a studio anniversary, a franchise announcement or a release on another platform. Short, and rarely signalled far ahead.

Full notes on Steam ↗Yes, in practice. Ragnarök is the direct sequel and opens on the previous game’s ending. There is a recap, but the story is built entirely on a relationship you would not have seen develop, and it is the single biggest thing people regret skipping.
It is complete. The substantial post-launch epilogue is included at no extra cost, and the Norse story is finished — Santa Monica Studio have said as much. The Deluxe Edition adds cosmetics and digital art, not playable content.
No. Since January 2025 signing in is optional on PC. Linking a free account adds trophies, the PlayStation overlay and the Armor of the Black Bear set for Kratos, and the game is complete without it — whatever older store copy, including the publisher’s notice below, still says.
The key you receive works where you are buying from. Sony restricts this catalogue by region, which is why the game is not listed at all in some countries — if you can see a price on this page, it is licensed for you.
Immediately. It is on the confirmation screen and in your inbox as soon as payment clears, at any hour. Redeem it in Steam and the game is yours permanently.
The publisher’s own minimum and recommended specifications are listed further down this page — the Requirements link in the section bar above jumps straight to them. In broad terms it scales unusually well: the upscalers in the PC release let mid-range hardware hold a high frame rate at 1440p.
Around thirty hours for the main story at an unhurried pace. Clearing the side content, the optional bosses and the realms you are not required to visit roughly doubles that, and the included epilogue adds more on top. It is a long game by the standards of its genre without being an open world padded to fill a checklist.
Included, at no extra cost, in both editions. It is a substantial epilogue in its own right rather than a bonus mission — a roguelite-structured mode with new writing that continues the story past the ending. Nothing about it is held back from the Standard Edition.
Yes, and they are the main reason this version exists. The frame rate is unlocked rather than held at a console cap, 21:9 and 32:9 aspect ratios are supported natively, and the current generation of upscaling and frame-generation techniques from all three GPU vendors is available, so a target frame rate is reachable on hardware you already own.
It arrives in your Steam library like any other title, so it installs on a Deck through the usual route with saves synced to the cloud. Handheld performance on a game of this scale depends on the settings you accept — check the current Deck compatibility rating on the game’s own Steam page before you count on it as your main way to play.
A large set, and the exact lists of spoken audio, subtitles and interface languages come straight from the publisher and are set out further down this page. They are worth checking before you buy if you need a specific one, because full voice acting and subtitles are not always offered in the same languages.
Yes. Every key we sell reaches us through our authorised distribution channel and activates on the official platform — there is no grey import, no shared account and no regional workaround involved. You get one key per purchase, it is yours permanently once redeemed, and our support team handles it if anything goes wrong at activation.
The game is the same and so is the content. What differs is the hardware around it: no frame-rate ceiling, ultrawide support, higher-resolution settings, mouse and keyboard as an option, and the Steam library rather than a console. Saves do not transfer between the two — a PlayStation playthrough starts again here.
