The Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World release date is Thursday 3 December 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC through Steam. The Digital Deluxe Edition includes 48 hours of early access, from 1 December. Standard is $59.99 and Digital Deluxe $94.99 in every US store we checked, and a free demo is already out.

We do not sell the game itself, but you pay for it from your platform wallet. A Nintendo eShop $50 US card plus a $10 eShop card covers the Standard Edition on Switch 2 or Switch. On Xbox, an Xbox $100 US gift card covers the Digital Deluxe Edition. Below: unlock times, what each edition really adds, sizes, and which demo progress you keep.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World release date and time

Square Enix opened pre-purchases on Steam on 9 June 2026, and on 1 November every store we checked (Steam, Xbox, PlayStation and both Nintendo versions) still showed 3 December. It is a monster-raising RPG starring Bianca and Nera, in which you befriend monsters from across the Dragon Quest series, raise them and synthesize new ones. Steam lists TOSE as co-developer with Square Enix, and the US stores carry an ESRB E10+ rating.

What time does Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World unlock?

On consoles it is a midnight local launch. Microsoft’s store data for the US lists the Standard Edition as available from 05:00 UTC on 3 December, which is midnight Eastern time. The UK store says 00:00 UTC, Germany 23:00 UTC on 2 December, Japan 15:00 UTC and Australia 13:00 UTC on 2 December: each one is midnight on 3 December in that country. The US PlayStation Store listing gives the same 05:00 UTC, and the UK, German and Australian PlayStation stores match their Xbox times exactly. The Digital Deluxe Edition’s early access follows the same pattern two days earlier.

Steam is the exception. Square Enix’s text on the Steam store page says “Early Access is planned to start on December 1st 2026 at 9.00am PST”, which is 17:00 UTC, so PC players in Europe get early access in the evening rather than at midnight. No Steam time has been given for the 3 December launch yet; when we opened the page on 1 November it said only that the game “plans to unlock in approximately 4 weeks”. Nintendo’s listings give the date (“Releases 12/3/26”) but no hour.

Can you pre-load Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World?

On Nintendo, yes: the US eShop pre-order button says it “lets you pre-load the game, so you’ll be able to play as soon as the game is released.” None of the other stores had published a pre-load date on 1 November. On Xbox and PlayStation, digital pre-orders normally download in the days before launch, and Steam usually opens pre-loads shortly before unlock, but no store had announced dates for this game yet, so treat those as likely rather than confirmed. The sizes further down tell you how much space to clear.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World editions and price

Editions as listed by Square Enix on Steam, Xbox, the PlayStation Store, the Nintendo eShop and the Square Enix Store (US), read on 1 November 2026.

The Collector’s Edition is not a separate game version. The Square Enix Store describes it as the physical Standard Edition shipped with the merchandise, plus a code that upgrades you to the Digital Deluxe Edition. Its price range on that page runs from $59.99 (Standard) to $219.99. The platform picker there offers Switch 2, Switch and PS5, with no Xbox or PC option.

Is the Digital Deluxe Edition worth it?

Prices of the Deluxe add-ons when bought on their own, from Nintendo’s US eShop price data on 1 November 2026 (listed but not yet on sale). The other stores sell the same packs separately.
Add-onWhat it does (per Square Enix)Sold alone
The Mega Mole HoleSpecial dungeons where you only meet monsters you have befriended, with the ranks and families you choose$9.99
Monster MarathonsAn expedition mini-game that earns your party experience and gold$9.99
Metallic RingTurns every enemy in the area into metal monsters or hunter mechs; reusable with a cooldown$9.99
Scout Run VIP CardExtra rewards and a bigger allowance in the base game’s Scout Run$4.99
Total if bought separately$34.98

All four packs are about grinding faster: more experience, metal monsters on demand, more scouting. That is useful in a monster-raising game, but none of it is story content. If you are new to the series, buy Standard. You can add any pack later at the same total price, and Square Enix itself warns that the Deluxe contents are “also sold separately”, so check before you buy them twice. The Deluxe Edition only makes sense if you want those packs anyway and like the idea of two extra days.

Pre-order and digital bonuses

  • Adventure Starter Set (any edition bought early): 10 Monster Munchies, 3 Bonus Balls, 5 Seeds of Skill. Steam’s deadline is 5 January 2027 at 8:59 AM PST, Nintendo’s 4 January at 8:59 PM PST; the Xbox listing says 4 January at 23:59.
  • Hearty Meat Set (any digital purchase): 5 Monster Munchies, 5 Smoked Sirloins, 5 Meaty Treats.
  • Way of the Wrangler (Digital Deluxe only): 1 Necklace of Animation, 10 Beastie Bites, 10 Seeds of Skill.
  • Wrangler’s Bundle (for playing the demo): 1 Ring of Impulse, 1 Bonus Ball, 5 Smoked Sirloins.
  • All of these are claimed in-game from “Check Additional Content”, except the demo bundle, which you get by starting a new game.

Prices in the UK, EU, Canada and Australia

Standard / Digital Deluxe prices read from Steam, Xbox (Microsoft’s catalogue), the PlayStation Store and Nintendo’s price API on 1 November 2026. A dash means we did not check that store and region.

Prices are the same everywhere except one oddity: in Australia the Digital Deluxe Edition is A$4 cheaper on Steam (A$133.95) than on Xbox or PlayStation (A$137.95). There was no pre-order discount in any store we checked. The Switch and Switch 2 versions cost the same, which is unusual for a game on both Nintendo consoles.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World quick answers

When does Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World come out?
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World comes out on Thursday 3 December 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam). On consoles it unlocks at midnight local time, which is 9 PM Pacific on 2 December in the US. Digital Deluxe Edition owners can play from 1 December.
Is Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World on PS5 and Xbox?
Yes. It launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on the same day as the Nintendo and Steam versions, 3 December 2026. There is also a free demo on Steam, the PlayStation Store and the Nintendo eShop.
How much is the Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World Digital Deluxe Edition?
The Digital Deluxe Edition costs $94.99 in the US, against $59.99 for Standard. It adds four DLC packs worth $34.98 if bought separately, the Way of the Wrangler item set and 48 hours of early access. The Collector’s Edition is $219.99 from the Square Enix Store.
Can I transfer my Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World demo save?
Partly. You can move up to 8 monsters from your demo party and reserves into the full game, plus get the Wrangler’s Bundle item set, if you keep the demo save and play both on the same platform and account. The monsters restart at level 1, and demo items and gold do not carry over.
Does Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World have a Switch 2 upgrade?
No. Switch and Switch 2 are separate versions at the same $59.99 price. Nintendo’s listing says there are no plans for an upgrade pack, and save data cannot be moved between the two versions, so pick the console you will play on before you buy.
Does Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World have cross-play?
The Steam and Xbox listings both flag cross-platform multiplayer, and the game has online battles and online co-op. On PS5 online play needs PS Plus and supports up to 4 players. Square Enix has not said which platforms can play together.

Both Nintendo listings carry the same warning: “There are no plans to sell an upgrade pack to upgrade the Nintendo Switch version to the Nintendo Switch 2 version”, and save data cannot be carried in either direction. If you own a Switch 2, buy the Switch 2 version. It is the same price, and you will not be able to move your monsters over later. The Switch version is for people still on the original console.

On Xbox, the Microsoft Store listing is tagged Xbox Play Anywhere and Optimized for Series X|S, so one purchase covers the console and Windows PC. The listing does not mention Game Pass. Steam lists Steam Cloud, Family Sharing and controller support. For how Family Sharing works, see our Steam Families guide.

The Switch 2 estimate is almost twice the Switch figure, so expect higher-resolution assets on the new console. Nintendo’s numbers are estimates and usually change a little at launch. For the Xbox and PC downloads, the game download time calculator tells you how long 38 GB takes on your connection.

The free demo: what carries over to the full game

Square Enix announced the free demo on 10 September 2026, and on 1 November we found it on Steam, the PlayStation Store and both Nintendo listings. Its demo announcement on Steam says it runs “from the start of the story up to the conclusion of events in Witherwood”. In the demo you can only befriend rank G and rank F monsters. You can bring part of that progress into the full game. This is how it works, per the announcement:

  1. Keep the demo save
Do not delete the demo or its save data before 3 December.
  2. Buy on the same platform and account
The transfer only works on the same console or PC, with the same account you played the demo on.
  3. Choose “Start New Game”
The demo rewards are claimed from the full game’s title screen when you start a new game.
  4. Collect your monsters from the depot
Up to 8 monsters from your demo party and reserves wait in the depot once you unlock it. They start again at level 1 with default talents. Items and gold stay behind.

“From our checks: on 1 November we read the release data from all four console and PC stores, plus the Square Enix Store, opened the Steam and Nintendo pages in a browser, and read Square Enix’s Steam announcements. The 3 December date and the $59.99 / $94.99 prices match everywhere. What is still missing is a Steam unlock hour for launch day, a PS5 file size and pre-load dates outside Nintendo.”

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World PC requirements

Official Steam system requirements, read 1 November 2026. Both tiers need Windows 11 (64-bit), DirectX 12 and 40 GB of storage.

These are modest numbers for a 2026 release, but note the Windows 11 requirement on both tiers and the 6 GB of VRAM at minimum, which rules out older 4 GB cards. The Steam page lists full audio in English and Japanese, and text in seven more languages including French, German, Spanish, Italian, Korean and both forms of Chinese.

Paying with a Nintendo eShop, Xbox or Steam gift card

Pre-orders on all of these stores can be paid from your account balance, so a gift card in your account’s currency works. In our store, the Nintendo eShop $50 card plus a $10 card covers the $59.99 Standard Edition. On Xbox, the Xbox $50 US card plus an Xbox $10 card covers Standard. On Steam, the Steam $100 US card covers the $94.99 Digital Deluxe Edition. Redeeming is covered in our guides to Nintendo eShop cards, Xbox gift cards and Steam gift cards. PlayStation wallet cards are not on sale in our store at the moment.

Which US cards cover which edition at the 1 November 2026 prices. Some US states add sales tax at checkout, so leave some headroom.

  • On Switch 2? Buy the Switch 2 version: same price, and there is no upgrade path later.
  • Play the demo before 3 December and keep the save if you want 8 monsters and the Wrangler’s Bundle on day one.
  • Skip the Digital Deluxe Edition unless you want its four DLC packs: early access is the only thing it adds for free.
  • Pre-order before 4 January 2027 (Nintendo, Xbox) or 5 January (Steam) to get the Adventure Starter Set.

Sources & how we checked this

We read every date, price and size on 1 November 2026, between 03:00 and 04:00 UTC. We pulled Steam’s store data for the US, UK, Germany, Canada and Australia, Microsoft’s catalogue for the US, UK, Germany, Canada, Japan and Australia, the PlayStation Store pages for the US, UK, Germany, Canada and Australia, and Nintendo’s US store pages and price API for the US and Canada. We opened the Steam and Nintendo pages in a browser for the screenshots and read Square Enix’s announcements through Steam’s news feed. We also searched our own catalogue to confirm we do not stock the game, and checked that every gift card linked above was in stock. We have not played the game or the demo.

How we write these guides: our editorial policy. We will update this page when the Steam unlock hour and the PS5 size are published, and again at launch with final sizes and reviews. Other Switch 2 launches this season: Metaphor: ReFantazio and Pikmin 4 Switch 2 Edition (both 12 November), and Monster Hunter Wilds (4 December).
